Privacy Policy — ParallaxTV
ParallaxTV turns the movies and shows on your own media server into TV channels. It is made by Free Radicals Group, a small independent developer; “we” below means Free Radicals Group.
The short version: the app has no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and your library and what you watch never reach us. The TV talks straight to your own media server. We only hold information if you buy Pro (your email address, so we can send your license key, and the TVs you use it on) or turn on Pro’s household sync (your channel setup, stored encrypted).
1. Using the free app
You do not create an account with us. When you use ParallaxTV without Pro, we receive nothing about you: no name, no email, no viewing history, no device data. There is no analytics, crash reporting or advertising code in the app.
2. What is stored on your TV
The app keeps the following in its own storage on the TV, so it remembers your setup:
- The address of each media server you connect, and what the app needs to sign in to it. For Plex, Jellyfin and Emby that is a token the server issued. The app never sees your Plex password; a Jellyfin or Emby password is sent once, to your own server, and not kept. Kodi has no tokens, so if your Kodi web server has a password, the app keeps it, with the username, to sign in each time.
- A copy of your libraries’ titles, descriptions, genres, running times and artwork addresses, so the guide works without asking the server every time.
- Your channels, settings, the name you give the TV, and a device ID the app makes from the TV’s own ID (a one-way hash, so the TV’s ID itself is never sent), which stays the same if you reinstall the app.
- If you use kids mode, a one-way hash of its PIN, not the PIN itself.
- If you buy Pro, your signed license, and if you pair a Hub, the Hub’s address and pairing token.
- A short diagnostic log, which you can read in Settings › Debug log. It is kept on the TV and never sent anywhere.
Uninstalling the app removes all of it.
3. Who the app talks to
- Your media servers (Plex, Jellyfin, Emby or Kodi), to read your libraries and play them. This is between your TV and your server. If you turn on Report playback to server (on by default, in Settings › Playback), the app tells your server what is playing and how far in, every ten seconds, so your server can show it under Now Playing and remember where you got to.
- plex.tv, only if you connect Plex: the app asks Plex for a link code, you approve it at plex.tv/link, and Plex gives the app a token and the list of your servers. That exchange is covered by Plex’s privacy policy.
- IPTV playlists you add (Pro), at the addresses you type in.
- A ParallaxTV Hub you pair, which runs on your own network (section 6).
- parallaxtv.app, our license service, only for the Pro features described in sections 4 and 5, and to check the TV’s clock so synced TVs stay together. The clock check sends nothing about you.
4. Buying Pro
Pro is a one-time purchase made on parallaxtv.app from your phone or computer. The TV shows a QR code and a short code; it never takes payment itself.
- Payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. From Stripe we receive and keep your email address and Stripe’s customer reference for you.
- Your license key is emailed to you through our email provider, Resend. We keep only a one-way hash of the key, so we cannot read it back.
- Each TV you activate sends that device ID and its name (such as “Living room” or “LG TV”). We keep both, with the date, so a key can be limited to five TVs, a reinstalled TV keeps its place, and a TV you no longer have can be removed, from the TV itself or by asking us. The short activation code the TV shows expires after 20 minutes.
- An activated TV renews its license with us from time to time, sending its license and device ID.
We use this information only to issue, check and support your license.
5. Household sync (Pro)
If you turn on sync, your TVs share one channel setup through the license service. That setup includes your channels, settings, and your media servers’ addresses and sign-in tokens, so another TV can play from them. It is stored encrypted, and is only sent to TVs activated with your license. We do not read it. Turning sync off stops the TV sending it; to have the stored copy deleted, email us (section 9).
If you sync through a ParallaxTV Hub instead, the setup stays on the Hub and never reaches us.
6. The ParallaxTV Hub
The Hub is optional software you run yourself, on your own PC or NAS. It reads the folders you point it at and serves them to your TVs and apps on your network. It does not contact us, and we have no access to it or its data.
7. Who else handles data
The license service runs on Cloudflare, which stores the license records described above, in the United States, and, like any web host, processes the IP address of each request. The service uses a request’s IP address, briefly and in memory, to limit how often it can be called; it does not save it. Stripe and Resend handle payment and email as described in section 4. We do not sell or share your information with anyone else, and there is no advertising of any kind.
8. Children
ParallaxTV plays a household’s own media and has a kids mode that parents can lock. The app collects nothing from anyone who uses it without Pro, and Pro is bought by an adult on a separate device. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
9. Your rights and deleting your data
Everything on the TV is removed by uninstalling the app. You can remove a TV from your license at any time on the TV itself, in Settings › License › Deactivate this TV.
To see, correct or delete what we hold (your license, email address, TV list and synced setup), email support@freeradicalsgroup.com from the address you bought with. Deleting your license stops Pro working on every TV that uses it; Stripe keeps its own payment records as the law requires.
EEA and UK (GDPR): the data controller is Free Radicals Group, reachable at the address above. Your email address, license and TV list are processed to perform the contract you entered by buying Pro; your synced setup is processed because you turned sync on, and you can turn it off at any time.
California (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell or share your personal information.
10. Security and retention
License records are kept for as long as the license exists, so it keeps working on your TVs and can be restored if you set a TV up again. A synced setup is kept until you ask for it to be deleted. Data on the TV is kept until you uninstall the app. The license service is only reachable over HTTPS, and synced setups are encrypted at rest.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
12. Contact
Questions about this policy, or about anything the app does: support@freeradicalsgroup.com. A person reads every message, so plain email is the whole process.
